Program Overview:
Join Farmer Chad, Vera, Holland and special guests for a nourishing, fun and educational family-friendly adventure at farm-to-table summer camp. This July, we offer two weeks of learning, experimenting and growing in a communal setting. Folks can expect a play & learn camp zone for kids and a focused workshop container for adults. This farm to table camp for all ages is happening in partnership with Rock Tree Sky and B'Earth.
Location:
Camp will take place at
Some days at San Antonio School Campus (East End)
650 Carne Rd. Ojai, CA
And some days at Summit School Campus (Upper Ojai)
12525 Ojai Santa Paula Rd. Ojai, CA
This will give us a chance to experience what it is to start a garden from the ground up, and also to get to work with and harvest from an already established garden. Once registrations are in, we will send an itinerary of which days will be at each location, and we will have carpooling options for those who would like to meet at the lower campus each day.
Hours: 9am - 1:30 pmÂ
Week 1 - July 1-5 (No session July 4th):
Learn how to grow food and culinary herbs. During these first days we will lay down the foundations of growing a home garden in Ojai’s unique climate. We’ll also explore apothecary arts with herbs and flowers. During these days, you can expect to work with herbs for making herbal medicines and body care remedies. We’ll also do some foraging and learn to identify some of the common native herbs that will make their way into our cooking and herbalism projects. Â
Week 2 - July 8-11:
Â
Commune and celebrate as we cook with the vegetables and herbs we’ve learned to grow. During this module, we will plan and prepare a three course farm-to-table menu. Each day, we’ll focus on a dish and herbal infusion to prepare. The last day we will reflect on our connections and the wisdom we’ve harvested over a farm-to-table lunch to be shared by all participants.Â
Additional activities sprinkled throughout the weeks:Â
Natural plant-dying with local flora
Claywork with foraged soil with Holland
Nature-inspired creative writing
This camp is open to the whole family–we welcome you to enroll as an adult, kid, or family! Adults and kids will be engaged in separate activities, though they may intersect for communal meals and harvests.
